Comic Relief:
I like the story of the little boy who was taken to the dentist. It was discovered that he had a cavity that would have to be filled. "Now, young man," asked the dentist, "what kind of filling would you like for that tooth?" "Chocolate, please,"

What is tooth whitening?
It is a bleaching
process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin.
"Whitening" of the teeth can enhance a smile by a simple procedure
utilizing a custom fabricated bleaching tray and a safe, dentist dispensed
whitening agent. Dr. Mike employs a patented, safe whitening agent which
will remove most stains with a gentle sustained release action that will oxidize
(bleach) your teeth. Your tooth structure remains unchanged.
Most patients wear the bleaching tray, with the whitening agent in it for
about 2-3 weeks. Some difficult darker stains may naturally require
longer treatment.
What causes
tooth discoloration?
There are many causes. The
most common include aging, consumption of staining substances (coffee, tea,
colas, tobacco), trauma, tetracycline (antibiotic) staining, excessive fluoride,
nerved degeneration, old restorations, old fillings, tooth nerve damage, or
trauma to teeth.
Who may benefit from tooth whitening?
Almost everyone. However,
there are some cases where the treatment may not be effective. A dentist
may determine viable candidates for the process through a thorough oral examination
and diagnosis. The tooth lightening system is ideal for patients who have healthy,
unrestored teeth and would like to have a whiter, brighter smile. MORE...
Adults
and children who rely on bottled water, or who use a home water
filter, may not be getting enough fluoride. Fluoride is found in
tooth pastes, mouth rinses, canned goods, and other products where
fluoride is present - naturally or as a water additive. The American
Dental Association says relying solely on these other sources "is not an effective or prudent public health
practice." The International Bottled Water Association recommends
that customers talk to their dentist or doctor about supplements if they're
concerned about fluoride deficiency. Be aware, though, that too much
fluoride can be bad for teeth, too. For more information related to fluoride
visit our Fluoride Page.
